Love Island

A hugely popular British reality dating show that combines romance, competition, and entertainment set in Mallorca and South Africa

  • Series Aired: 2015 - 2021
  • Production Company: ITV Studios
  • Lighting Director: James Tinsley

The Love Island Villa is designed as a luxury holiday home meets reality TV stage set

It looks aspirational to viewers while also being practical for constant filming, with multiple sightlines, hidden camera rigs, and controlled lighting. The aesthetic is bright, airy, and modern, with plenty of outdoor space to emphasize summer romance and drama.

The bedroom is a large, open-plan room where all Islanders sleep together, designed to heighten intimacy, gossip, and drama. Bright, colourful décor and neon slogans on the walls reinforce the playful vibe

The majority of the action happens outside. Expansive terraces, daybeds, fire pits, and beanbags are arranged to encourage both intimate chats and group gatherings.

The Firepit is a central feature positioned as a dramatic stage, usually circular in layout with concealed cameras, creating a theatrical feel

The Garden has iconic infinity-style pools and lounge areas, designed to look great on camera both day and night, with hidden lighting to enhance the night time party atmosphere

Areas are designed to be re-dressed quickly, whether for themed parties, challenges, or seasonal twists

In the “challenge” segment islanders are pitted against each other in games or tasks to win rewards or dates. These are large-scale builds that must be safe, filmable, and workable multiple times.

The need for new, engaging challenge sets each series—or even mid-series—means production design must be agile, creative and cost-effective
